Throughout my experience in Italy studying abroad, I have learned a tremendous amount about myself. Traveling to Italy alone and entering this program knowing no one, I felt anxious and worried about finding my place in a new country. This experience has helped me to discover what I find important, as well as to expand my worldview.

My internship experience has allowed me to recognize the value of change. Our lives are constantly changing, and adapting to new situations is something I have found previously difficult. However, I believe I have bettered my ability to adapt and integrate myself to new surroundings and environments. This experience challenged my abilities to cope with change, yet has strengthened my ability to be flexible. I have been able to create relationships with people from all different backgrounds, both from America and Italy, something I would never had the chance to do if I had not fully embraced the changes around me.

Furthermore, I have found value in self-reliance. Studying abroad has helped me work and develop a sense of independence. With so many places to see and experience, I have found importance in not being afraid to go out and explore independently. Similarly, in my internship experience, I have been given a lot of creative freedom. I am able to share my ideas and receive feedback accordingly. Back home, I am typically given specific and rigid guidelines for work. Yet, I have found myself tailoring my projects to my specific interests, in turn creating a fulfilling experience, as well as one I am proud of.

Communication skills have been vital during this experience, both in my internship as well as living in a shared apartment. I have been able to strengthen my communication skills by letting Daphne know where I am at both mentally and with my work. I have learned the importance of asking for help when I need it. I am very grateful to have worked with staff who are so attentive to my needs and willing to help. Utilizing Sant'Anna resources has been extremely helpful in situations like figuring out which trains to take, where to exchange money, and navigating Sorrento. In our shared apartment, I have learned the value of communicating boundaries, in learning how to co-exist together in a small space. I have found joy in listening to the stories and experiences of my roommates and have loved getting to know new people.
